Space should be treated as a finite resource. As economic conditions and organizational requirements change, it is fiscally responsible to proactively assess the impact of time on the utilization of space. High quality companies pay attention to the impact of space on their corporate culture, employee productivity and the bottom-line, thus making them successful. The management of space is a dynamic process, with the passing of time delivering a significant impact to the workplace. In order to be perceived as an invaluable business partner to your corporation, it is critical to observe, document, communicate and respond in an insightful manner! How to manage the impact of time on space utilization. Mr. Hurtado has managed the Federal Express real estate portfolio and implemented a master plan for J. D Edwards world headquarters and he has directed one of the largest telecommunications data networks rollouts. Lynda Schroer provides management for BGL’s staff and projects. On-Line Partial Discharge Testing--Cable System Testing Without Do Medium Voltage cable systems power your facility? Then,
Partial Discharges are probably eating those cable systems away. And your
facility is headed for an unplanned power outage. On-Line Partial Discharge
Testing can find partial discharges before a failure occurs and do it
while your systems energized. This presentation explains what partial
discharges are, how they occur, and on-line testing techniques. Examples
of real life cable system failures are examined. Comparisons are made
to other testing standard techniques. Attendees will learn how On-line
Partial Discharge Testing can help improve electrical system reliability
and production uptime. Mr. Ashley Harkness is currently serving as the testing laboratory manager for Electrical Reliability Services, Pleasanton, California, a division of Emerson Process Management - Asset Optimization. For the past 25 years, Mr. Harkness has been involved with field-testing of electrical power systems. In several roles, Mr. Harkness gained extensive experience in the realms of product safety inspection and testing, forensic analysis of power cable system failures, and radio frequency interference. This experience makes Mr. Harkness uniquely qualified to discuss On-Line Partial Discharge Testing of medium voltage cable systems. Hand-out
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a technology that is enabling a wave of change in how buildings get designed, built and operated. There are estimates of 30% waste in today’s construction methods. BIM promises to cut this waste drastically by providing us the tools to virtually build, coordinate and simulate the many complex systems and process that go into constructing and operating today’s modern buildings. In this presentation we will define BIM, look at the current state of BIM, and explore what possibilities the future has in store for BIM. Hand-out As a tireless champion of the intelligent application of architectural technology within the design profession, Fred Pax, AIA, LEED AP is today considered one of the industry’s leading experts in the use of Building Information Modeling [BIM]. A licensed architect, Pax was an early innovator of 3-D modeling at the University of Cincinnati where he graduated with a Bachelor in Architecture. Throughout his 32 year career, Pax has consistently led change efforts at the crossroads between technology and architecture and has helped to introduce BIM to the FAA, US Army Corp of Engineers, GSA, PCL Construction, Stanley Consultants and numerous other leaders in the field. Derek Cunz is the Director of Project Development for Mortenson Construction and is a recognized leader within the industry in the implementation of virtual building and BIM. Engineering News Record named Derek a Top 25 Newsmaker in 2006 recognizing his contribution to the design and construction industry. Derek has been a speaker at various conferences on the subject of Building Information Modeling, including the AIA, AISC, SAME, University of Denver, Construction Industry Institute, DBIA, University of Colorado, Stanford University, and the American Bar Association.

variety of daylighting case studies illustrating the successes, failures,
and lessons learned from each project. Hand-out
As a building is constructed, it is subject to extensive
plan reviews and inspections that ensure compliance with adopted codes
and verify that all life safety systems are fully functional. The challenge
for a facilities manager is to maintain these systems after the building
is occupied. We will discuss methods, procedures, requirements and useful
documents to assist the facilities manager in this process. We will also
discuss how to prepare for the periodic life safety inspections conducted
by the fire department throughout the life of the building. After graduation from college with a BME degree Mr. Hardy worked in construction and as a general contractor for approximately 18 years. Mr. Hardy has been in the inspection field for approximately 15 years and worked as a building inspector, fire inspector, plans examiner and maintains ICC certifications as a building inspector, fire inspector and plans examiner. Mr. Hardy currently serves as Fire Marshal for West Douglas County Fire Protection District, a consultant in the private sector, and the interim Fire Marshal for South Metro Fire Rescue since May of 2007.
